The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

“Because I have to admit: there’s something really badass about truly, honestly not caring what people think of you.”

Cassie and Molly are twins. They live at home with both of their moms and their little brother. Their family is unique in so many ways other than the obvious! Despite the many challenges one might expect from being raised in a house with two moms, their moms are also of a different race, they learn to overcome negativity! There are many dimensions that make this story a YA coming of age, finding your place in the world and becoming comfortable in your own skin!

I’m predicting that YA 14-17 would enjoy this read. I was excited for it but didn’t LOVE it, not because of the writing style but more so because the content didn’t appeal to me. I had enough of teenage sex stories about half way through. Lol But, there was an enjoyable plot surrounding how to overcome stereotypes, being comfortable with who you are, and caring less about what others think!

I give it 3/5 stars. I would definitely attempt another book by this author though.
