Description

One by one, they will get what they deserve…

A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation.

She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children.  A chance to repair her damaged marriage.  A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends.  It sounded like heaven.

Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.

Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.

And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?

But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:

Only one of them will return home alive.

Review

This is my 3rd Freida McFadden book in the last 3 days! Wow! One by One is a fabulous tale of love, friendship, deceit and lies lies lies! I was hooked from page one. I knew that this story wasn’t meant to make someone laugh but the opening scene between Claire and Noah was damn funny. Their hateful exchange, sarcasm, and apparent loathing of each other was practically dripping off the page. McFadden did an amazing job making the reader believe that their relationship problems were going to be the demise of their upcoming week- long getaway with 4 of their closest friends.

I’m not sure what happened between then and now. But I can’t stand the guy anymore.

I wonder if we could fix things. Maybe if I say something kind right now instead of my usual snarky comment, he would smile and laugh. And maybe we could use this trip as a chance to heal our relationship. Maybe it isn’t too late for us.

One hour into the car ride to the secluded cabin, readers will probably hate ALL of the characters. Legit… Hate. All. Of. Them. Here’s what I have to say to them…

Noah- get over yourself. Do some laundry of your own for God sake. if you can’t find your sweatshirt, don’t blame Claire! You are being rude and verbally abusive and I dislike you.

Claire- what do you expect? If you think that having an affair is ok because your husband is a jerk… you aren’t gaining any sympathy from me! You didn’t think it was a bad idea to break the news of your hotel plan to Noah on the way there? Ugh….

Jack- what kind of best friend are you? Shameful😡

Michelle- wow! Stuck up, conceded, and slightly arrogant doesn’t begin to describe you.

Lindsay – eat the burger girl! Grow a spine. You don’t need a man to tell you how to eat or dress! What kind of upbringing do you have! Geez!

Warren – seemingly the perfect guy. Lindsay hit the jackpot. Plastic surgeon, athletic, dimpled chin, chiseled features… is Warren the all American dreamboat that Lindsay makes him out to be?

So, 6 friends, a 4 hour car ride, one week of hiking, fishing, and relaxing. What could go wrong? Oh…. Just EVERYTHING!

You won’t regret starting this heart pounding thriller unless you have somewhere to be early the next morning because you won’t be able to rest until you finish!
