1)What is something very few know about you?
I’m scared of the dark.
2)When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?
Lots of things! For a long time, I wanted to be Wonder Woman, or a journalist like Lois Lane. I became a journalist, but secretly always dreamed of being a writer.
3)Sometimes I Lie is one of my absolute favorite books! What was your inspiration for this story?
I was in an accident in my early twenties. I woke up in hospital with a serious head injury, unable to remember what had happened. I could hear people, and feel them touching me, but I couldn’t move or speak and it was terrifying.
That memory played a big part, but the main idea for the book came to me in my sleep. I woke up in the middle of the night with a character called Amber in my head, and wrote down the three things I knew about her on a notepad by my bed. Those three things have never changed:
My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me:
1. I’m in a coma.
2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore.
3. Sometimes I lie.
4)What book do you wish you had written and why?
There are lots of those! Most recently, The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn, because it is beautiful, dark and twisted.
5)What are 3things you have to have with you when you write?
My dog.
My laptop.
A Kit Kat at 3pm, but only if I’ve hit my word count.
6)I love quotes! Can you tell me one of your favorite quotes?
I have a great Yoda quote hidden on the bracelet I’m wearing right now:
“Do or do not. There is no try.”
7)What is the best advice you ever received in life?
Write the book you want to read.
8)What was the hardest scene to write and why? What helped?
Honestly, I think I enjoyed it all. The whole experience was pretty fast with Sometimes I Lie, I wrote the book in six months and everything that has happened since has been the most wonderful whirlwind. Being a writer really is the best job in the world and I feel very lucky.
9)What is something everyone seems to love that you just don’t get?
Hot drinks – I don’t drink tea or coffee.
10)Sometimes I Lie comes out in March (yay!) but we also hear Sometimes I Kill will be released in the near future can you give us a little something about it?
Sometimes I Kill is a brand new dark and twisty story, and I hope people will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
