The Season of Styx Malone by Kekla Magoon @keklamagoon Publication Day 10-16-18 #wendylambbooks

Caleb Franklin and his big brother Bobby Gene are excited to have adventures in the woods behind their house. But Caleb dreams of venturing beyond their ordinary small town.

Then Caleb and Bobby Gene meet new neighbor Styx Malone. Styx is sixteen and oozes cool. Styx promises the brothers that together, the three of them can pull off the Great Escalator Trade–exchanging one small thing for something better until they achieve their wildest dream. But as the trades get bigger, the brothers soon find themselves in over their heads. Styx has secrets–secrets so big they could ruin everything.

The moral of the story…. Don’t judge someone for the choices they make because you don’t know the choices they had to choose from!

Styx Malone oooozes coolness! Caleb and Bobby Gene idolized him. He’s 16, fearless, and full of great ideas! When the boys got in trouble after trying to trade their little sister for some fireworks, they end up in trouble and having to complete chores. When Styx Malone comes along with the best idea ever to solve their problems, they are all in! Their entire summer was consumed with “The Great Escalator Exchange”, the answer to all their problems!

As they continue to trade up, they get closer and closer to their goal. They aren’t always honest with their parents but with Styx Malone has your back, it’ll all be good. But who is Styx Malone? Is he bad news? Is he up front with the boys? Aren’t they best friends?

When Styx’s secrets are accidentally revealed, the truth surfaces and Caleb and Bobby Gene have to come clean with Mom and Dad about their summer “adventures”. But where did that leave Styx Malone? Did they miss their happy ending?

Styx Malone is the boy who is the “across the woods” neighbor. Everyone knows a Styx Malone but not everyone realizes they do. First, I loved the friendship these boys grew. They are loyal to each other and had tons of fun. When things about Styx became blaringly clear, Caleb and Bobby Gene have to plead with their parents for their support.

Is Caleb ordinary? Does “extraordinary” mean more ordinary than ordinary? Caleb learns the true meaning of what extraordinary really means!

I LOVED this book! I loved everything about it! I didn’t want it to end.
