“A snowball in the face is surely the perfect beginning to a lasting friendship.”
We have both read this book and listened to the audio! First, Mark Zusak managed to paint a gruesome yet beautiful, horrid yet magnificent, raw yet real picture of what humans are capable of. Spoken from the point of view of “Death” himself, Zusak told an unforgettable story of unconditional love, tremendous loss, human indecency and human decency that not just any author could accomplish.
Major kudos to the narrator Allan Corduner who truly made the characters come alive. He gave them a voice that could be difficult to do if the reader isn’t familiar with many German words. He was able to paint an even clearer picture for me.
So no spoilers… but Liesel, Rudy, Max, papa, and Mama along with a long list of beautiful characters will remain in your hearts forever! I found myself dreaming about what these characters experienced and woke up teary eyed angry and laughing all at the same time!
You will never laugh, cry, and yell so much in one book as you will when reading “The Book Thief”. Highly highly highly recommend this book!
The film was endearing, an old-fashioned storytelling.
