How to Walk Away by Katherine Center ~ Publication Date 5-15-18 @KatherineCenter @StMartinsPress
Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she’s worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fiancé she adores, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment.
In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fiancé, Chip, who wallows in self-pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there’s her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there’s Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won’t let her give in to her pity, and who sees her like no one has seen her before. Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect.
How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best―a masterpiece of a novel that is both hopeful and hilarious; truthful and wise; tender and brave.
Probably one of the most heartfelt, poignant stories of 2018! I can’t express how beautiful this story was. Everything about it was beautiful. From page one, you’ll fall in love with Margaret, her fear of flying, her bubbly personality, and the love she felt toward her boyfriend Chip.
Margaret agrees to go on Chip’s plane, even though he doesn’t officially have his pilot license. In the name of love and adoration, she boards that plane with hopes and dreams of a future together but her life is never ever the same after that fateful decision. It’s hard to explain and convince yourself that everything in life happens for a reason when it seems like whatever happens is so so undeserving and unfair.
As the events of that night unfold and the complete and utter admiration for what and how Margaret rises above her experiences will have you hugging this book. (I do believe I actually hugged the book) Without telling you any more detail, I will just say that by the end of the book, hindsight is 20/20. We don’t always understand why things happen at the time they happen, but it’s always made clear to us eventually.
I LOVED this story more than words. If I were you, I would run to the nearest bookstore or click purchase on AMAZON! I even made it easy for you with the buy links below… Happy Reading!
