Victoria Barnett has it all.
A great career. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfectâor so it seems.
Then sheâs in a terrible accident⌠and everything falls apart.
Now Victoria is unable to walk. She canât feed or dress herself. She canât even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with twenty-four-hour care.
Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoriaâs husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isnât as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. Thereâs a story Victoria desperately wants to tell⌠if only she could get out the words.
Then Sylvia discovers Victoriaâs diary hidden away in a drawer.
And whatâs inside is shocking.

This is my first book review of 2022 and WOW, I am so glad I started the new year with this amazing book. There are very few books that avid readers of psychological thrillers can remember weeks, months and years later. I am positive that this will be one of those books for me.
The beginning of this book gave off a âVerityâ vibe. Since I loved Verity so much I was excited on one hand but nervous that the plot was going to be too similar or parallel. Not the case! Freida McFadden created a cast of characters that will make readers feel instantly drawn into the story.
AdamâŚthe dedicated, successful, handsome, âone-of-a-kindâ husband was easy to love. At first, my suspicions quickly grew about his character. Is he the âMr. Perfectâ that Victoriaâs friend Carol made him out to be? Is it all just an act? It just doesnât add up! But maybe the suspicions about who he really is wasnât based on a reliable source? I went back and forth tons of times! I predict readers will too!
âIn life, things never go quite the way you want them to. But when youâre creating your own fictional world, you can make everything happen exactly how you want it to. Thatâs what I love about writing.â
SylviaâŚshe was in the right place at the right time the day she tried to help an old lady who was choking at the diner! At first, it seemed like she was down on her luck. But little did she know, she was about to get an offer she couldnât refuse! I mean⌠đ¤ˇđťââď¸ thatâs how it appears anyway. When Sylvia arrives at Adamâs house, she has a sinking feeling.
I canât say to him what Iâm really thinking, which is that this house gives me the creeps.
VictoriaâŚa young, pretty, successful, independent woman meets the man of her dreams and leaves everything she has worked hard for to begin a new life in a new townâŚ. At the edge of the world! She feels like the luckiest girl alive. What could possibly go wrong?
And that seems to be the essence of our marriage sometimes. He lies to me because he thinks I wonât ever know the difference.
This story will be enough to give you the biggest book hangover ever! The ending will make your head spin! I canât give this book enough stars!
