Description

Victoria Barnett has it all.

A great career. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems.

Then she’s in a terrible accident… and everything falls apart.

Now Victoria is unable to walk. She can’t feed or dress herself. She can’t even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with twenty-four-hour care.

Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoria’s husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isn’t as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. There’s a story Victoria desperately wants to tell… if only she could get out the words.

Then Sylvia discovers Victoria’s diary hidden away in a drawer.

And what’s inside is shocking.

Review

This is my first book review of 2022 and WOW, I am so glad I started the new year with this amazing book. There are very few books that avid readers of psychological thrillers can remember weeks, months and years later. I am positive that this will be one of those books for me.

The beginning of this book gave off a “Verity” vibe. Since I loved Verity so much I was excited on one hand but nervous that the plot was going to be too similar or parallel. Not the case! Freida McFadden created a cast of characters that will make readers feel instantly drawn into the story.

Adam…the dedicated, successful, handsome, “one-of-a-kind” husband was easy to love. At first, my suspicions quickly grew about his character. Is he the “Mr. Perfect” that Victoria’s friend Carol made him out to be? Is it all just an act? It just doesn’t add up! But maybe the suspicions about who he really is wasn’t based on a reliable source? I went back and forth tons of times! I predict readers will too!

“In life, things never go quite the way you want them to. But when you’re creating your own fictional world, you can make everything happen exactly how you want it to. That’s what I love about writing.”

Sylvia…she was in the right place at the right time the day she tried to help an old lady who was choking at the diner! At first, it seemed like she was down on her luck. But little did she know, she was about to get an offer she couldn’t refuse! I mean… 🤷🏻‍♀️ that’s how it appears anyway. When Sylvia arrives at Adam’s house, she has a sinking feeling.

I can’t say to him what I’m really thinking, which is that this house gives me the creeps.

Victoria…a young, pretty, successful, independent woman meets the man of her dreams and leaves everything she has worked hard for to begin a new life in a new town…. At the edge of the world! She feels like the luckiest girl alive. What could possibly go wrong?

And that seems to be the essence of our marriage sometimes. He lies to me because he thinks I won’t ever know the difference.

This story will be enough to give you the biggest book hangover ever! The ending will make your head spin! I can’t give this book enough stars!
