Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier ~ Publication Day 6-12-18 ~ @JenniferHillier @Minotaurbooks

This is the story of three best friends: one who was murdered, one who went to prison, and one who’s been searching for the truth all these years . . .

When she was sixteen years old, Angela Wong―one of the most popular girls in school―disappeared without a trace. Nobody ever suspected that her best friend, Georgina Shaw, now an executive and rising star at her Seattle pharmaceutical company, was involved in any way. Certainly not Kaiser Brody, who was close with both girls back in high school.

But fourteen years later, Angela Wong’s remains are discovered in the woods near Geo’s childhood home. And Kaiser―now a detective with Seattle PD―finally learns the truth: Angela was a victim of Calvin James. The same Calvin James who murdered at least three other women.

To the authorities, Calvin is a serial killer. But to Geo, he’s something else entirely. Back in high school, Calvin was Geo’s first love. Turbulent and often volatile, their relationship bordered on obsession from the moment they met right up until the night Angela was killed.

For fourteen years, Geo knew what happened to Angela and told no one. For fourteen years, she carried the secret of Angela’s death until Geo was arrested and sent to prison.

While everyone thinks they finally know the truth, there are dark secrets buried deep. And what happened that fateful night is more complex and more chilling than anyone really knows. Now the obsessive past catches up with the deadly present when new bodies begin to turn up, killed in the exact same manner as Angela Wong.

How far will someone go to bury her secrets and hide her grief? How long can you get away with a lie? How long can you live with it?

If you only have time for a handful of books this year… MAKE THIS ONE OF THEM! I predict it will fly off the shelves in June! We are huge fans of suspense, psychological thriller, murder mystery books. This has everything!

Jennifer Hillier created characters that were so real, they could have been people you know. However, their troubles and tribulations are not the norm! I bonded with the characters right away and began rooting for Geo from the start. I also got mad at her, cried for her and yes… I might have yelled out loud at her a few times (you may want to read this book while you are alone or not in public in order to avoid stares lol) talk about a friend that picks the wrong fork in the road … Every. Single. Time.

Geo’s story unravels (at the perfect pace) while you begin learning how her part in the murder of her best friend Angela from HS is relevant, you also won’t believe how crazy and twisted it becomes! I don’t want to give too much away so I’ll leave it at this…

If you love a book that you feel you’ve connected with the characters right away, that you can picture yourself in the middle of, that you think you’ve figured out (but you so didn’t), and are shocked at the end when you learn how wrong you were… this is your book! Go pre- order it! You won’t regret it!

We look forward to reading more from Jennifer Hillier! Ahhhh… a rollercoaster of a book that keeps you dangling in suspense!

Hi there, I’m Jennifer Hillier. I write about dark, twisted people who do dark, twisted things. My newest psychological thriller, Jar of Hearts, will be out on June 12, 2018 from Minotaur Books. I’m also the author of Creep, Freak, The Butcher, and Wonderland, which were published by Gallery Books and are available now.

I was in born in Toronto, but I spent eight years in the Seattle area, which is where all my novels are set. I’m a Seahawks fan but I married a Packers guy. We have a young son who looks most like me when he’s crying. My favorite author is Stephen King (but whose isn’t?). I’m afraid of the dark and can’t sleep unless I’ve checked the locks on the doors several times. I love writing when it’s raining, sleeping when it’s sunny, and reading after everyone else has gone to bed. I cherish my family (those who read, and those who don’t), and my friends (those who write, and those who don’t).

I’m a member of Mystery Writers of America, International Thriller Writers, and Crime Writers of Canada. I’m also a regular columnist at The Thrill Begins, where I talk a lot about my writing journey and dispense advice you may or may not find helpful.

You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, but hopefully not every day.

  1. GREAT review! This book caught my eye because of the positive reviews so I was curious about it. I’m glad that you liked it and I really want to read it now. I really loved your author spotlight, too.
