“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!”

In the spirit of this holiday that so many celebrate across the world, Two Girls and a Book Obsession is honoring this day by reading and reviewing the classic, “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.
Whether you celebrate this holiday in honor of Jesus Christ born on Earth to Mary and Joseph and that God sent Jesus to be the Savior of the world, or you celebrate it less “religiously” but remember it is a time for giving and love, you will most definitely LOVE this Christmas classic!
When Mr. Marley, Scrooge’s old business partner who died years ago, pays him a visit to tell him he will get a visit from the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Scrooge is terrified and confused! As he prepares himself for the arrival of the first ghost, he tried to rationalize why he would get these visits?
As each ghost pays Mr. Scrooge a visit, he slowly learns that his way of living doesn’t allow him to give or feel love. It doesn’t allow him to see the good in others or feel that giving is so much better than receiving.
At the end of this classic story, Mr. Scrooge vowed to live his life in the past, the present, and the future! He vowed to learn from his mistakes and to forgive others. Mr. Scrooge is lucky to have had these ghosts visit for he otherwise would have ended up like his old friend and business partner Jacob Marley who in death has learned too late what he should have known in life.
If you haven’t already, please take the time to read or listen to this classic on audio, read it aloud to a child, and let it serve as a reminder during this very busy and hectic season, the true meaning of Christmas is to love and to give to others. It isn’t about gifts, it isn’t about tangible items.
